1 - Overview
March 2021 - September 2022
Weber, a strategic brand under the global building‑materials group Saint‑Gobain, is a world leader in mortar-based solutions—including tile adhesives, façade renders, flooring mortars, and other construction chemicals. Guided by the vision to lead in lightweight, sustainable construction, Saint-Gobain and its brands, including Weber, focus on innovation, performance, and environmentally responsible solutions.
2 - My role and responsibilities
I was initially hired as an intern in March 2021 and was later extended into a freelance contractor role due to the success of my work. During this tenure, I was responsible for:
- Designing and developing two WordPress websites
- Encoding custom interactive tools such as a dynamic product quiz and a usage (consumption) calculator using JavaScript
- Creating digital marketing assets, including HTML5 banners and informational brochures in alignment with Weber/Saint‑Gobain’s branding guidelines
- Managing continuous iteration and stakeholder review loops in highly structured corporate environments
3 - Tegellijm.nl – Smart Tiling Assistant
Goal: Help users select the right tiling products from Weber’s catalogue based on their project needs through a clean, interactive interface fully localised in Dutch.
While the site includes a product browser, its main value lies in two custom-built tools:
- A dynamic tiling product quiz
- A volume calculator (Verbruikscalculator)
3.1 Interactive Product Quiz
Located on the homepage, this quiz guided users through a series of adaptive questions to determine the most suitable product for their tiling needs. The logic was non-linear: every answer dynamically influenced the flow, and users could go back and modify previous inputs without breaking the logic or end result.
Although the website is no longer live, the quiz was one of the most technically and creatively challenging components of the project.
Highlights:
- Developed entirely in vanilla JavaScript
- Built to be self-correcting: users could revise inputs at any stage, and the system recalculated on the fly
- Refined through multiple rounds of user testing to ensure UX clarity and technical resilience
- Delivered with comprehensive documentation so the internal team could modify the logic independently
3.2 Verbruikscalculator (Usage Calculator)
Accessible via the navigation bar, this custom tool helped users calculate how much product they needed based on project-specific parameters like surface area and tile size.
Though the site is no longer available online, this tool played a key role in transforming product pages from static brochures into interactive problem-solving tools.
Highlights:
- Built-in dual calculator system to support various product types
- Delivered dynamic summary tables with quantities and relevant product links
- Designed to be mobile-friendly and quick to use on-site for professionals
4 - 3d.weber.com – Showcasing 3D Concrete Printing
The 3D printing site required close collaboration with internal stakeholders, who had specific technical and marketing requirements. I translated these needs into a modern, responsive website that showcases the company’s innovation in an accessible format.
Key elements:
- Clear landing structure guiding users through what 3DCP is, why it matters, and how Weber is leading the field
- Built-in contact and lead capture form
- Content designed to balance corporate tone with visual innovation, aligning with strict brand guidelines
5 - Collaboration and process
As part of a large corporate ecosystem, this project required:
- Adherence to rigid design and brand standards
- Frequent stakeholder alignment meetings
- Handling cross-functional feedback loops across marketing, product, and communications
Despite the structured environment, I was given the autonomy to implement custom features and recommend UX solutions — always balancing technical feasibility, user experience, and corporate expectations.
6 - Key learnings
These projects taught me how to:
- Work effectively in large, process-driven organisations
- Translate vague stakeholder needs into functional digital tools
- Build tools that are not just beautiful, but genuinely helpful
