INTRODUCTION

La Gilda is a newly launched collectible card shop based in the Milan province, specialising in Yu-Gi-Oh!, Magic: The Gathering, and Pokémon cards. The client needed a custom e-commerce site that would set them apart from the many generic, template-based trading card websites.

2 - My role and responsibilities

WEB DESIGNER

I designed the full visual identity and UX of the site in close collaboration with a front-end developer, working through multiple iterations with the client to land on a design that was both user-friendly and full of personality. The final result gave La Gilda a distinct online presence aligned with the passion and visual language of trading card game culture.

3 - The challenge

La Gilda’s founder wanted a site that felt personal and exciting, different from the standard out-of-the-box e-commerce setups used by many small card sellers.

Key challenges included:

  • Designing an interface that appealed to both hardcore collectors and casual buyers
  • Ensuring the layout could scale with inventory while remaining easy to navigate
  • Creating a smooth collaboration pipeline with both the client and developer

4 - The design process

From the start, this was a deeply collaborative project. I worked closely with the client to understand their brand, goals, and audience, as well as with the developer to keep our solutions realistic and efficient to build.

We iterated quickly through Figma prototypes, with feedback rounds focused on:

  • Visual tone: bold and confident, without being overwhelming
  • User flows: easy product browsing, intuitive checkout, clear navigation
  • Component structure: reusable sections for future scalability

5 -  What I’d do next

With more time and budget, I would explore:

  • A deck-building or wishlisting feature to increase user engagement
  • A membership/loyalty interface for repeat customers
  • Advanced product tagging and filter UX for large-scale inventory
